A furnace is heating equipment that warms air and sends it through a home’s ductwork. Depending on the equipment, it may use gas, electricity, or another energy source. A blower moves the warmed air to rooms through supply ducts, while return ducts bring air back to the system.
What affects performance
Capacity, airflow, duct condition, thermostat settings, and maintenance all affect comfort and efficiency. A dirty filter or blocked airflow can make the system work harder and may cause uneven heating. If a furnace stops heating or makes an unusual noise, a technician can diagnose the cause before recommending repair or replacement.
